Datawarehouse first, then move to OLAP

Why we must move data into the datawarehouse and then into the OLAP system ? Why not extract data into the OLAP system directly ?
Here are a few reasons :
1. OLAP system needs transformed and integrated data.
2. OLAP system needs extensive historical data, which must be combined with archived historical data.
3. OLAP system requires data in multidimensional representations.
4. If you have some OLAP systems in your office. Each OLAP system comes with its own interface. If you insist to extract the transactional data directly into OLAP system, you'll be busy in making separate interface for each of them.

Subject: Tanya Data & Dimensional Modelling

1. Bagaimana caranya membuat data modelling untuk perancangan data warehouse ?

Why We Need SDLC in Data Warehouse Design ?

When designing the data warehouse for a company or organization, we have to make sure that it will be a value-added system. Also, we have to make possibilities for the data warehouse to be developed in the future. That's why we need SDLC methodology for data warehouse design.
Here are nice quotes about the topic.

---Quotes---
"Accurate requirements definition is many times more important for a datawarehouse. Because the datawarehouse environment is an information delivery system where the users themselves will access the datawarehouse repository and create their own outputs." (Datawarehousing Fundamentals, Paulraj Ponniah, John Wiley & sons.)

The Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is the process of understanding how an information system (IS) can support business needs, designing the system, building it, and delivering it to users.
(System Analysis & Design, Alan Dennis & Barbara H. Wixom, John Wiley & sons)
